- Paragraph of the Week: Write a paragraph explaining the following quote: “Kindness is a language the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” -Mark Twain DIRECTIONS: Answer one (or more) of the questions below. Use R.A.C.E. Complete bubble map. Responses must be no less than 50 words.
a. Explain the meaning of the quote in your own words.
b. What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you? What is the kindest thing you have done for someone?
c. How can we spread more kindness? What are some things that you and your classmates can do to spread kindness?
d. Do you think it’s important for our leaders and role models to show kindness toward others? Why or why not?
Week of January 30th
Monday, January 30, 2017: Students will complete warm up over grammar and figurative language and add figurative language notes into their IAN. Begin reading “Number the Stars” by Lois Lowry (chapter 1).
Tuesday January 31, 2017: Students will complete warm up over grammar and figurative language and add vocabulary notes into their IAN.Read “Number the Stars.” (chapters 3-4)
Wednesday February 1, 2017: Students will complete warm up over grammar and figurative language and add characterization notes into their IAN. Read “Number the Stars.” (chapters 5-6)
Thursday February 2, 2017: Students will complete warm up over grammar and figurative language and add characterization notes into their IAN. Read “Number the Stars.” (chapters 7-8)
Friday February 3, 2017: Students will complete warm up over grammar and complete Lesson 1 from Coach book (Milestone practice). Quiz over Number the Stars chapters 1-8.
Week of January 23, 2017
Monday: Students work on grammar warm-up (Quiz over this on Friday). Dr. Martin Luther King essay due today. Students will work on completing a K-W-L over WWII and begin defining vocabulary for “Number the Stars.”
Homework: Weekly Language Work- Quarter 3, week 3.
Tuesday: Students will work on Tuesday’s s grammar warm up. Students will view a Powerpoint over WWII and complete the K-W-L chart.
Homework: Weekly Language Work- Quarter 3, week 3.
Wednesday: Students will work on Wednesday’s grammar warm up. Students will begin reading “Number the Stars” and begin characterization.
Homework: Weekly Language Work- Quarter 3, week 3.
Thursday: Students will work on Thursday’s grammar warm up. Students will take notes on figurative language, work on vocabulary, answer comprehension questions relating to “Number the Stars.”
Friday: Students will work on Friday’s grammar warm up. Students will read and answer comprehension questions over “Number the Stars.” Quiz over warm-ups for the week and “Number the Stars.”
Final Submission for Boxtops is February 15! So far the ECMS PTSA has raised $337 from Boxtops. Please send in all your collected Boxtops in a baggie with your child’s name and homeroom teacher. Bring all Boxtops to the blue collection box in the main hallway across from the attendance office. Each grade homeroom with the most boxtops will receive a donut party. Thanks for helping support the PTSA!
The Week of January 17
Monday: Dr. Martin Luther King day
Tuesday: Students complete a circle map (formative quiz grade) on Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. Students must have 12 facts to obtain a 100. Extra credit may be given for additional facts. Students also completed a flee map to guide them in the 5 paragraph essay about Martin Luther King Junior. Homework: Write introductory paragraph.
Students are working on a 5 paragraph essay. The best essays will be submitted to a contest for Metro Atlanta students. Essays must be submitted by January 27, 2017. Essay/Contest information: http://dream.wnba.com/news/atlanta-dream-announces-dream-essay-contest/

Thursday: Final drafts are written. Homework: Study Greek/Latin words and put finishing touches on essay.
Friday: Quiz over Greek/Latin vocabulary words(formative grade)- Moved to Monday. and Dr. Martin Luther King Junior essay due. Begin “Number the Stars” or student selected novel (for those who have read “Number the Stars.”
January 11
Classwork: Today students took the Scholastic Reading Inventory (apart from 1st period)
Homework: None
Thursday and Friday, January 5th and 6th
Thursday: Students will need their IAN (Interactive Notebook) today to include the RACE handouts. RACE is a method for writing constructed/extended responses. (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain) Students will take a pre-test over figurative language. We will begin reading chapters 1-2 of “Number the Stars.”
Friday: Read chapter 3 of “Number the Stars.” Students will need their IAN (Interactive Notebook) today as we are adding a figurative language foldable and taking notes in it.
I’m excited to welcome back our 6th grade students. This quarter we will be reading “Number the Stars” and “The Giver” by Lois Lowry. Students are encouraged to buy their own copy of the book, but it is not required. We will also be studying figurative language and poetry in this 3rd Unit.
